The brutal battle between two fighting Zebra stallions has been captured by amateur photographer Ian Weatherburn(43) in the Kruger National Park in South Africa. The no holds barred confrontation between two Burchells zebras was over mating rights and hooves and teeth flew as the normally placid animal's fought it out. Photographer Ian described the scenes as the 'bare knuckle brawl ' of the animal kingdom. *** Winter is boring, so while we wait for the warmth of summer to bathe our bodies, some people have decided they cant wait and have started a Facebook trend of FROSTING ***
[Forget planking and owling Frosting means getting on your glad rags, bikinis and shorts and get out there in the snow and pretend its summer already. Pictures are coming in so fast they are scorching the internet, but its still freezing outside across the north of the USA. ] Alan Sailer, based in California USA, gets most of his joy out of demolishing fruits, vegetables and all other kinds of stuff. He turns almost everything into puree without the help of a blender. ..A normal photographic flash unit gives a flash that lasts around a thousandth of a second (a millisecond). However Alan's flash unit is much faster than this, and produces a flash of light around a microsecond (a millionth of a second). This allows him to freeze things that are happening extremely fast, and to give us a view of something that otherwise we would never see...The other key part of Alan's set up is an automatic trigger mechanism, as the pellet passes through a laser beam. When this happens, the flash is triggered. However in order to be able to fine tune the image, there is an adjustable delay circuit, so the flash will trigger at a precise moment after the pellet has passed through the laser beam. The digital camera (a Nikon 40X) uses a fairly slow shutter speed. The photograph is taken in darkness, and while the camera shutter is open, the high speed flash captures the image. Alan says that this allows him to catch the pellet is space with an accuracy of a few millimetres...Although pics are taking in a millsecond, cleaning up takes a lot longer! View of the Costa Concordia on January 14, 2012, after the cruise ship ran aground and keeled over off the Isola del Giglio, last night. Three people died and about 70 were missing after an Italian cruise ship with more than 4,000 people on board ran aground and keeled over, sparking scenes of panic. The Costa Concordia was on a trip around the Mediterranean when it apparently hit a reef near the island of Giglio on Friday, only a few hours into its voyage, as passengers were sitting down for dinner.
