A seat on Jeff Bezos?s Blue Origin flight into space has sold for $28 million (USD) at auction. A mystery bidder paid out a fortune to join the Amazon founder and his brother Mark on the New Shepard rocket?s first crewed flight on July 20. The bidding was already at $4.8 million going into the phone auction on June 12, organized by RR Auction in Boston, Massachusetts. And it kept rocketing as auctioneer Steve Little fielded offers on behalf of a group of anonymous bidders. The identity of the winning bidder is set to be announced later this month. Jeff Bezos announced earlier in the week that he would be aboard the New Shepard?s maiden crewed voyage. The launch will see the New Shepard rocket propel a capsule up to the point it breaks the stratosphere. The $28 million raised by the auction is being donated to Blue Origin?s in-house educational foundation Club For The Future, which promotes science and space travel among young people. *BYLINE MUST CREDIT BLUE ORIGIN. 12 Jun 2021 Pictured: The crew capsule of Blue Origin's New Shepard. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announces he will be on Blue Origin?s first human flight into space and invites his brother Mark to join him. The billionaire intends to beat space sector rivals Elon Musk and Richard Branson by being aboard the first human flight launched by his space company Blue Origin on July 20. He surprised his younger brother and best friend Mark by inviting him to be on the flight, and they will also be joined by the winner of a multi-million dollar auction. Bezos, who has an estimated personal wealth of over $180 billion (USD) explained how he has always dreamed of travelling into space and announced: ?I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend.? The brothers and four other passengers will launch into space on the first crewed flight of Blue Origin?s New Shepard rocket and will spend at least 10 minutes floating in zero gravity inside the capsule. The flight could be a major step forward in the quest to send paying travelers to the edge of space. *MANDATORY BYLINE MUST CREDIT: BLUE ORIGIN/MEGA. 09 Jun 2021 Pictured: Jeff Bezos and Mark Bezos after the Amazon founder invited his brother to join him on Blue Origin's first human flight into space.
